Which EBB & FLOW lamps can I place in my bathroom?
Our Horizon Surface lamp, which you can either place on the wall or the ceiling, is IP44 certified. This means that you can position your Horizon Surface lamp in zone 2 and zone 3 of your bathroom. If you’re looking for a decorative wall or ceiling piece for your bathroom, this is the one for you.
If you want to buy a lamp for your bathroom, you must be aware of the different IP zones. These zones determine where you can place your lamp.
What is IP?
IP is an international ”Ingress Protection” rating code that helps determine what bathroom electricals, i.e. lighting, can go in what area of a bathroom.
The IP rating indicates how well the lamp is protected from the ingress or intrusion of particles, most notably water.
Different bathroom IP zones
When determining, where you can position your lighting, the bathroom is divided into four zones.
Each zone is based on the risk of water intrusion.
Zone 0: The interior of a shower or bath itself. A fitting used in this area of a bathroom must be low voltage (Max 12V) and at least IP67 rated. EBB & FLOW does not sell lamps for zone 0.
Zone 1: Zone 1 is the area above the bath to a height of 2.25m from the floor. Electrical products used in this zone require a minimum of an IP4 rating and should use extra low voltage with the transformer placed in zone 3 or beyond. EBB & FLOW does not sell lamps for zone 1.
Zone 2: Zone 2 is the area beyond zone 0 and zone 1, stretching 0.6m horizontally and vertically up to a height of 2.25m from the floor. In these bathroom zones, an IP rating of at least IP44 is required. In addition, it is good practice to consider the area around the washing basin, within a 60cm radius of any tap, as zone 2.
Zone 3: Zone 3 is anywhere outside zones 0, 1 and 2, and where no water spray is likely to occur. No IP rating is required in zone 3.
